Nageire

Nageire means "to throw in", as if one had gathered up nature and lightly tossed it into the vase. A nageire arrangement is typically constructed in a tall vase and requires a Komi or other technique to secure the branches in place within it. Nageire has two main lines, the Sun line and the Earth line. The Sun line is the longest and sets the tone for the arrangement. The Earth line supports the sun line and should be one-third to one-half of the sun line's length. The flowers are placed in complementary positions to the lines, providing both depth and fullness to the arrangement. Try not to crowd the flowers or the neck of the vase. When possible, leave some of the mouth of the vase in view.
