Moribana

Moribana is a combination of the Japanese words mori which means “to pile,” and bana which means “flower,” hence the meaning “flowers piled up.” This style is a very natural arrangement typically constructed in a low, shallow container. The basic form of the arrangement is made up of three lines, forming an asymmetrical triangle. The main three lines are the Sun line, which is the longest and most defining line; the Moon line, which complements the Sun line; and the Earth line, which balances and enhances the other two. Proportionately, the Earth line is visually heavier and half the length of the Sun line. The flowers should be arranged within the triangle and the supporting greens should be low and close to the perimeter of the main lines.
